Today in class we discussed the article we were assigned to read titled "Are Returns That Important?" Prior to reading the piece, I hadn't truly understood how important time is in regards to personal finance. The article stressed the importance of returns and their LONG TERM effects, rather than short term results. Another interesting point from the article is that returns are successful if they're sustainable, so while getting a 20% annual return sounds appealing, the total will not amount to much if it's unsustainable. In addition, we talked about our budgets and how on September 6th, our budget begins. From today, we are keeping track of all our expenditures- at the end of the semester we will be able to identify whether we remained under our budget or not.
In advisory last week, we watched a 20 minute Vice news video on the Charlottesville rally. The link can be found here. I thought it was really interesting as it provided viewers with a closer look into the incident as the Vice news reporter follows a group of White Supremacists around for several days and interviews various members of their community.
