Business: The Best Companies to Work For (Fortune)

In class, we discussed important aspects of human resources in companies. According to an article on fortune.com, called 100 Best Companies to Work For, Google, The Container Store, ACUITY, Wegmans Food Market, and Hilton Hotels are all considered some of the best places to work in 2016. They all have relatively similar benefits, such as providing health insurance and discounts for services (e.g. gym memberships, college tuition reimbursement). Each company has interesting HR strategies. Google, for example, is a clear example of this. Laszlo Bock, Senior Vice President of People Operations at Google, has a specific HR management tactic: "Only hire people who are better than you", meaning never settle for a low standard of quality. This is just one example of many different human resources management strategies companies use.

Out of the five companies stated above, the more well known companies: Google and Hilton Worldwide, have higher percentages of diversity. This is an important part of human resources, as many people feel more comfortable in places that are more racially diverse, and all of these companies have a non-discrimination policy. All of these companies have a comparatively good amount of holidays/paid time off, and this may increase the longer employees work at one company.

Google is a clear example of a company with good human resources. It is in the advertising and marketing industry. In the past year, Google has had an 18% growth in full-time workers. This is important as it shows how more people are willing to work full-time in the company. According to the article on fortune.com, some of the "perks" of working at the company include: health insurance to part-timers, telecommuting, job sharing, and onsite childcare. These benefits heavily impact the workforce of their company as they promote a more positive working environment. Google employees are given 13 days of holiday, as well as 15 days of vacation, and an unlimited amount of sick days a year.

In conclusion, different aspects of human resources have a direct correlation to the quality of a company, as it affects the way employees work, whether it be positively or negatively.
